Open Question: Can anyone solve my harddrive problem?

I had this computer for around 3 years. I used it flawlessly for these years. About a year ago I purchased another hard drive for storage and back up. The hard drive is sata . I had many files stored on it since then. I decided to install win vista for dual boot XP/VISTA to test out some features. I installed the 64 bit OS. First I partitioned only 80gigs off the 500gig storage drive and installed vista onto this. It worked but after about a a few weeks the drive is not readable and causes explorer to crash. I tried to view it in windows manager and all I see is the data is unreadable and its format is RAW. After a couple reboots and replacing the wires that connect the drive the RAW format disappear and now shows the 2 partitions as unreadable. I want to recover the data. The drive is being displayed healthy. There is no bad sounds from drive.I tried to format the 80gig part but it failed. I want to recover some of the data if possible. Any way I can do this?
